Chelsea chase Miranda signing
Chelsea have enquired as to the availability of Atletico Madrid’s Joao Miranda, according to The Daily Mail.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho is still looking for a replacement for David Luiz, who left Stamford Bridge to join Paris Saint-Germain recently for £50 million, and has reportedly turned his attentions to Luiz’s compatriot Miranda.
An offer of £20 million has been rumoured, and while Atletico are far from keen to sell another star player, their financial difficulties may force their hand.
The Spanish champions have already effectively lost three players to Chelsea this summer. Striker Diego Costa and full back Filipe Luis made the move to west London on permanent deals, while Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois finally returned to Stamford Bridge having spent three seasons on loan at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.
Miranda, aged 29, joined Atletico from São Paulo in 2011 and has made 142 appearances in all competitions for Los Rojiblancos. He also had another spell in Europe earlier in his career, spending the 2005/06 season in France with Sochaux.
Miranda has seven caps for the Brazil national team, and while he was placed on standby for the recent World Cup he did not make the final squad.
