Atletico rule out moves for Premier League trio

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo says the club won’t bid for Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez, Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla or Chelsea’s former Atletico striker Fernando Torres, ESPN reports.

Enrique Cerezo and Diego Simeone

The Spanish champions have been linked with moves for each of the three but Cerezo has told Spanish radio that there’s little or no truth to the rumours, also dismissing the prospect of signing Jose Callejon from Napoli. “Many names have been mentioned, but none of those players, neither Cazorla, Callejon, Torres nor Chicharito [Hernandez] are on our agenda,” Cerezo said. “If we sign another player, it won't be any of them.”

Cerezo also rubbished reports centre-back Miranda was going to follow Diego Costa and Filipe Luis to Chelsea. “I know nothing about that at all, and if I haven't heard about it it's because he's going to stay, I'm almost certain of that,” he insisted.

Atletico landed the league title last season by beating Barcelona to top spot, drawing 1-1 at Camp Nou in the campaign’s final game to seal the trophy, and also reached the Champions League final where they were beaten by local rivals Real Madrid after extra-time.
