Crystal Palace have completed the signing of former Fulham central defender Brede Hangeland, who arrives on a one-year contract, the Daily Mail has reported.

Brede Hangeland

A popular figure at Craven Cottage thanks to his defensive ability and leadership skills, he was released by the club following their relegation to the Championship back in May. He was at the club for six and-a-half years, helping Fulham to their three best Premier League finishes and the Europa League final in 2010, in which his unfortunate own goal handed victory to Atletico Madrid.

He now forms part of Tony Pulis’ defence for this season, and was delighted to make the move across London. He said: 'I’m absolutely delighted. All the things I’ve heard about this club – the manager, the players, the staff – it’s all been good things and I’ve seen that for myself this morning.

'I’m delighted to be here. I look forward to helping out and doing the best I can for this club. I’m quite old school as a player, I just want to be part of a good group of players, working for a good manager, working really hard and driving something in the right direction.’

The Norwegian becomes Crystal Palace’s third signing of the summer after goalkeeper Chris Kettings and former Cardiff City Fraizer Campbell sealed moves to Selhurst Park.
