Van Gaal facing difficult Man Utd test, says Ancelotti

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has said that Louis van Gaal faces a difficult test as he prepares for his first season in charge at Manchester United, Sky Sports has reported.

Carlo Ancelotti

The Dutchman took over from David Moyes in May and was handed the task of reclaiming the club’s place in the Champions League and improving on the hugely disappointing seventh place they achieved last season. He has so far signed two players, with midfielder Ander Herrera and left-back Luke Shaw both moving to Old Trafford.

But Ancelotti, who won the Premier League and FA Cup double in his first season in England with Chelsea believes that van Gaal may find success difficult to come by initially. “He [Van Gaal] is a very good and very experienced manager,” said the Italian. “He has had fantastic experience in many countries and I think he will do a fantastic job with Manchester United.

“He had a fantastic World Cup with Holland and is a manager who has nothing to learn. After Alex Ferguson, last year for United was more difficult and now they have to repeal the team. They have signed really good players this year. [But] to build a team is not so easy.

“The Premier League in this moment is a very competitive league and will not be easy to win in the first year because there are a lot of teams who are really competitive and want to win.”
