Newcastle land hit man Ferreyra
Alan Pardew and Newcastle continued their summer recruitment drive after they landed striker Facundo Ferreyra from Shakhtar Donetsk on a season long loan, the Daily Star has reported.
The Argentinian becomes the seventh player to arrive at the Magpies in what is proving to be a busy summer, joining Remy Cabella, Siem de Jong, Jack Colback, Daryl Janmaat, Emmanuel Riviere and Ayoze Perez through the arrival door at St James’ Park.
Newcastle have paid an initial £1.5m for the players services on loan this term and have an option to fork out an extra £5m should they want to turn the deal into a permanent transfer next year.
Ferreyra, who is nicknamed ‘chucky’, became a popular figure at Donetsk during his time at the club but became increasingly concerned about his own safety due to the unrest experienced in the country at the moment.
The 6ft 1in striker arrived in Ukraine last year after scoring 16 goals in 22 games for homeland club Velez Sarsfield.
He only featured in 13 league games last season but still managed bag six goals in that time.
