Arsenal weighing up move for Guilavogui
Arsenal are considering the possibility of making an offer for Atletico Madrid defensive midfielder Joshua Guilavogui, according to the Metro.
As manager Arsene Wenger’s search for a player to fill the holding role continues, Guilavogui is the latest to be linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners are said to be in pole position to sign Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho, and hold an interest in World Cup winner Sami Khedira, but are weighing up the 23-year-old Guilavogui as a possible alternative.
The Frenchman would certainly be a cheaper option, with Guilavogui having been put up for sale by Atletico after struggling to settle in the Spanish capital after arriving from St. Etienne, to whom he returned on loan for a part of last season.
Guilavogui would be available for around £11.5m, but Arsenal do face competition from Wolfsburg for his signature, and will be wary of the German club after losing to them in the race to sign Luiz Gustavo last summer. Despite his struggles at the Vicente Calderon, Wenger believes Guilavogui is capable of filling the holding midfield role which he has struggled to fill since the departure of Alexandre Song in 2012.
