Liverpool on verge of signing Spanish pair
Liverpool chief executive has flown to Spain to complete deals to sign Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno and Atletico Madrid right-back Javier Manquillo, reports the Daily Mail.
Moreno has been a major target for Liverpool throughout the summer, and a £20m deal is close to being agreed with the Europa League winners. With the injury-plagued Jose Enrique’s future at Anfield in some doubt, he could compete with Jon Flanagan for a place in the starting XI.
The 22-year-old has spent his whole career at Sevilla, scoring three goals in 62 outings, but is now expected to become Liverpool’s seventh permanent signing of the transfer window. Emre Can, Lazar Markovic and Divock Origi have all joined along with Southampton trio Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren.
Manquillo is expected to move to Merseyside on a two-year loan deal from Atletico, where he is not first choice, and is likely to provide competition for Glen Johnson. Liverpool will have the option of buying the 20-year-old for £6m when the loan agreement comes to an end, while they could also decide to terminate the deal at the end of the first year.
