Van Gaal to sanction Man Utd clearout

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is set to initiate a major clearout which could see up to six of his senior players leave Old Trafford by the end of the transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

Marouane Fellaini

Midfielders Anderson, Shinji Kagawa and Marouane Fellaini are in the running to be shown the door, along with striker Javier Hernandez and wingers Luis Nani and Wilfried Zaha. Each of the six have figured sparingly in Man Utd’s pre-season fixtures, and are thought to have been deemed surplus to requirements by van Gaal.

Hernandez and Kagawa are being chased by Spanish champions Atletico Madrid, who are looking to re-strengthen after the loss of several key players during the summer. They are said to be preparing a big-money bid for the duo, but face competition from other European clubs.

Anderson rarely played for United last season and was sent out on loan, with his seven year stay looking increasingly likely to come to an end. Nani’s contract still has over four years left to run but van Gaal is reportedly unwilling to keep him, Fellaini is being eyed by Napoli while Wilfried Zaha is a target for West Ham United.
