Napoli manager Rafael Benitez refused to discuss rumours that his club are poised to launch a bid to bring Manchester United misfit Marouane Fellaini to Italy, reports Sky Sports.

When questioned on the reported interest the Partenopei have in the Belgian international midfielder, Benitez said: “He's not one of our players, his future does not depend on us, but on Manchester United. I think about working with the players I have.”

New Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is in the process of putting together the squad that he wants for the new Premier League season as he seeks to re-establish the Red Devils at the top of the English game. A number of players are rumoured to be heading for the Old Trafford exit as part of van Gaal’s remodelling, and Fellaini is said to be one of the prime candidates for a move.

The 26-year-old midfielder joined United last summer in a £27.5 million deal from Everton. While his performances in his five years at Goodison Park earned him rave reviews, he was generally considered a disappointment in his first season with United. He made just 21 appearances in all competitions, failing to find the net as United went trophy-less and slipped to an unsatisfactory seventh place finish in the Premier League.

Fellaini is under contract for another four years at Old Trafford, so it is likely that a move to Napoli would be on a loan basis.
