Bayern Munich lure Reina to Germany
Bayen Munich have agreed a deal to bring Liverpool outcast Pepe Reina to the Allianz Arena, Sky Sports is reporting, with just a medical to be passed for the move to be completed.
Reina had spent eight seasons as the Reds number one but found himself out in the cold following the arrival of Brendan Rodgers – who brought in current number one Simon Mignolet and subsequently allowed Reina to leave for Napoli on a season long loan.
And now the 32-year-old has been allowed to leave the Anfield club on a permanent basis with Rodgers judging Brad Jones as sufficient back up to Belgian Mignolet.
He was just six games away from making 400 appearances for Liverpool, while last season he featured for Napoli 41 times in all competitions.
The shot stopper was also part of Spain’s World Cup squad this summer that were dumped out of Brazil in the group stages, keeping a clean sheet against Australia in his only appearance at the tournament.
The Spain international is likely to provide back up to current Bayern and Germany number one Manuel Neuer for the majority of the time.
