Chelsea preparing for big Schurrle bid

Chelsea are bracing themselves for a big money offer from Spanish champions Atletico Madrid for Germany star Andre Schurrle as they look to bolster their squad for a title defence, the Express is reporting.

Andre Schurrle

Atletico have already signed France ace Antoine Griezmann and Croatian hit man Mario Mandzukic, and are looking for another player with attacking flair to link up with the pair and current play maker Arda Turan.

And it is believed that boss Diego Simeone is desperate to land the German who impressed in Brazil this summer.

Schurrle has only been at Stamford Bridge one season having joined from Bundesliga outfit Bayern Leverkusen in an £18m last summer but found a starting place hard to come by at times – he was often overlooked for the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian.

The player did still manage to net eight goals in his 30 league appearances, and this coupled with his World Cup form have led for calls from fans for a more regular inclusion of the German.

However, Jose Mourinho is aware that he needs to streamline the foreign contingent within his Chelsea squad and could be tempted to sell Schurrle, while Simeone hopes good relations from sales of Diego Costa and Filipe Luis to Chelsea could work in his favour.
