Southampton ready to pounce for £7m Forster
Southampton are waiting in the wings to scoop up £7m goalkeeper Fraser Forster should Celtic crash out of the Champions League qualifying stages tonight, according to the Daily Mail.
Celtic are currently facing a very early exit from the competition – they are 4-1 down on aggregate to Legia Warsaw and face playing away from their stadium as it is being used for the Commonwealth Games.
And should they fail to repeat their heroics of last season in overturning a 2-0 aggregate deficit with a last gasp Kris Commons goal to win 3-0, Forster looks set to complete a switch to the premier League.
Were Celtic to fail to qualify it could cost the club around £15m in prize money, meaning player sales are a real possibility at the club – something manager Ronny Deila confirmed.
This news will be welcomed by Southampton fans after a miserable summer has seen the club cash in on five stars in big money moves.
Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Callum Chambers, Luke Shaw and Dejan Lovren enjoyed great form last season but have all been sold for a combined total of £92m – and are yet to see significant investment back into the side.
So far only Ryan Bertrand, Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic have been brought in to St Mary’s, but the club have also confirmed talks with Inter Milan winger Ezequial Schelotto whilst agreeing terms with the same club for midfielder Saphir Taider.
