Liverpool confirm Manquillo signing
Liverpool have confirmed the loan signing of Atletico Madrid full-back Javi Manquillo, ESPN has reported.
The 20-year-old moves on a two-year deal and the Reds have the option to make the transfer permanent. Manquillo becomes Brendan Rodgers’ seventh signing of the summer, following Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren and Divock Origi, the latter signed from and loaned back to French club Lille.
Manquillo told Liverpool’s official website that he is thrilled at the chance to play in the Premier League and to represent a club the size of the Anfield outfit. “It's one of the biggest in Europe. Any footballer would want to come and play here,” Manquillo said. “When they tell you Liverpool want to sign you, like any player, you are going to be absolutely amazed and you don't think of anything else than going straight there.
“It's a team that nowadays, as I said before, any player would want to be a part of,” the right-back continued. “The immediate objective is to do the best I possibly can here. I've come here to try and secure a place for myself in the side and, if possible, stay here for many more years in the future.”
Manquillo was part of the Atletico side that won the Spanish title last season but made only a handful of appearances, having come through the club’s academy after switching from Real Madrid in 2007.
