Arsenal eye move for Liverpool defender Agger
Arsenal are set to make an attempt to sign Liverpool defender Daniel Agger, who is also the subject of interest from former club Brondby, the Independent has reported.
The Dane is out of favour at Anfield at present, and has reportedly asked manager Brendan Rodgers to leave the club. The Reds signed central defender Dejan Lovren from Southampton in July, adding to the already significant competition for a place in the heart of their backline, with Mamadou Sakho, Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure also among their options.
With Thomas Vermaelen looking set to move to either Barcelona or Manchester United, Arsenal view Agger as a possible replacement, although to gain a regular starting place, he would have to break the successful partnership between Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.
Brondby, who sold Agger to Liverpool back in January 2006, still retain hope of re-signing the 29-year-old, but the player is likely to favour a move to a more high-profile club. Since moving to Liverpool, he has played alongside club heroes such as Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia, and has gone on to make 232 appearances and score 14 goals.
