Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is to be offered a new contract by the Premier League champions that will see the Belgium international tied to the club for another six years and paid £200,000 per week, ESPN has reported.

Bonuses would take Kompany’s earnings over the length of the deal to £65m, it’s claimed. The skipper has four years remaining on his current contract, also a six-year deal signed in 2012. He moved to City in 2008 from Hamburg and has gone on to play more than 250 times, captaining the club to two Premier League titles in three years.

It’s said that with the signing of Eliaquim Mangala imminent, City are eager to assure Kompany that he is still the most important defender at the club and want his contract to reflect that fact. Mangala is expected to move to City from Porto in a £32m transfer in the very near future.

Kompany has also lifted the FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield in his time at City after starting his career in his native Belgium at Anderlecht.
