Manchester City have offered Argentina striker Sergio Agüero a new contract and hope that he will put pen to paper before the Premier League season gets underway, according to The Daily Mail.

Agüero has another three years to run on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium, but City have offered fresh terms to extend the Buenos Aires-born forward’s stay in Manchester until 2019.

Talks have reportedly gone well over the agreement, which is said to be worth around £210,000 a week, with City impressing on Agüero that he is central to their plans for the future.

Agüero joined City in the summer of 2011 from Atletico Madrid for a fee in the region of £38 million having scored 75 La Liga goals in five years with Los Rojiblancos. He has maintained a highly impressive strike rate for the Blues, with 75 goals in 122 appearances in all competitions.

Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have both been credited with interest in Agüero, another motivation for City to wrap up the new deal as quickly as possible.
