Pellegrini unconcerned by Man City trophy target

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that he is taking little notice of chief executive Ferran Soriano’s target of winning five major trophies in as many years, writes Sky Sports.

Soriano made the statement last summer when Pellegrini was appointed, and the Chilean responded by winning the Premier League title. He also guided the team to victory in the Capital One Cup, but that is not viewed by the club as a major competition.

As he begins his second season in charge at the Etihad Stadium with the Community Shield against Arsenal on Sunday, Pellegrini declared that his focus was to win every tournament the club is involved in, rather than focus on meeting Soriano’s target.

"I don't have a target to win five titles. Every time I play a competition, I want to win it. But that thing that we have to win five titles in five years - for me it is not important," he said.

"For this year, our target is exactly the same as last year. We will play in the four competitions we must play in and we will try to continue in all competitions as far as we can. Exactly the same as last year. We continue trying to win the Premier League, the FA Cup, the Capital One Cup and the Champions League, and we will see during the season what we can do."
