Swansea City manager Garry Monk has admitted that midfielder Jonathan de Guzman is unlikely to return to the club for a third season, Sky Sports has reported.

The Dutchman has spent the last two campaigns on loan at the Liberty Stadium from Spanish club Villarreal, going on to score 15 goals in 93 appearances in all competitions. He has been linked with a £5m permanent move to Swansea, but they face competition from Queens Park Rangers.

The West London club a reportedly willing to offer as much as £7m for the 26-year-old, who played in three matches for the Netherlands as they achieved third place at the World Cup in Brazil.

He is yet to make a decision on his future, and Monk admits time is running out for de Guzman to choose to return to South Wales. He said: "We talked to him earlier in the summer, he wanted to keep his options open and I guess his options still are. I do not anticipate him coming back at this moment in time.

"With the high turnover of players we have had, and trying to get as much information across to them as possible, we have not got time to wait around. I am not closing the door on it, if it happens it happens, but he and his agent were the ones who decided to keep his options open and we can't wait about."
