Atsu to join Everton on loan

Monday 11 August 2014

Everton are expected to formally announce the loan signing of Chelsea winger Christian Atsu on Monday, the Daily Mail is reporting.

Christian Atsu

Roberto Martinez is no stranger to the loan market and saw three successful stints for stars Gareth Barry, Romelu Lukaku and Gerard Deulofeu on a temporary basis last season.

Barry and Lukaku have made their switches permanent but the club did lose Spaniard Deulofeu back to Barcelona.

Martinez has made it clear that he wished for another winger to arrive at Goodison Park this summer and has utilised the loan market yet again to seal a move for 22-year-old Atsu.

The Ghanaian impressed at the World Cup with his pace and trickery and has been tipped to shine under Martinez this coming season.

Atsu spent a successful spell on loan at Vitesse last term as he moved to gain first team football following his arrival at Chelsea from Porto last September.

He made a total of 30 appearances for the Dutch club, scoring five goals and creating six more, while he has represented his country 26 times since making his debut in June 2012, scoring in the process.
