New Tottenham Hotspur signing Eric Dier has declared himself ‘delighted’ with his first run-out at White Hart Lane, the club’s official site has revealed.

Dier moved to Spurs from Porto this month and helped Tottenham beat Schalke 04 in a pre-season friendly, the Premier League side dispatching the German visitors 2-1 with goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado.

The 20-year-old former Everton loan player lined up alongside Michel Vorm and Ben Davies, the pair of players captured from Swansea, and said after the match that his inaugural appearance in front of the Tottenham crowd was one to remember.

“I was really happy to get out there on the pitch,” said Dier, one of three players to play the full match. “It’s obviously my first time playing at the stadium and it was a fantastic experience.

“We made lots of changes and it can be hard to keep the same momentum in that situation, but we played well and I was really happy with my first game,” he continued. “I hope to keep improving but I’m happy with the start. It’s great to be here.”

Dier made almost 50 appearances for Sporting and Sporting B, having spent time on loan at Goodison Park when a teenager. He was born in Cheltenham but moved to Portugal as a child with his parents and has represented England up to Under-21 level.
