Costa: Chelsea move an easy decision

Diego Costa has revealed he didn’t need much persuading to quit La Liga champions Atletico Madrid to move to the Premier League with Chelsea, Sky Sports has reported.

Costa ended last season as the third- top scorer in Spain’s top flight, behind Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, scoring 64 goals in 135 games in his two spells with Atletico.


He moved to Stamford Bridge over the summer and is willing to let observers judge him by his performances more than anything else. “I hope my actions on the pitch and my feet will do the talking and then people can decide if I'm a good player or not,” the Spain international said.


“All I can say is I love playing hard and fairly. I want to improve, not only as a player but as an individual, and I believe this is the perfect place for me to do that.”


Costa added that he was eager to move to the Blues to play with the likes of Eden Hazard, and to play under manager Jose Mourinho. “Joining was an easy decision for me,” Costa revealed. “We have some of the best players in the world, the best manager in the world and it's a club with great history.”


He also reflected on his experience of playing at the Bridge last season when he was part of the Atletico side that dumped Chelsea out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage, on the way to a final defeat against Madrid.


“I remember the atmosphere and the passion of the supporters,” the 25-year-old recalled. “They stayed right until the end, getting behind their team, even though it was unlikely they could win after we scored two quick goals.”


Costa last season made his Spain debut against Italy, having also played for Brazil, the country of his birth, against the Azzurri. He represented La Roja during the World Cup in his native country but the holders were eliminated at the group stage.
