Arsene Wenger considering £8m Tiote
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly considering making a move for Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote with the player reportedly unhappy with life on Tyneside, the Express has reported.
Reports suggest that representatives of the Ivory Coast international are ready to listen to offers for their clients services and it is thought Newcastle owner Mike Ashley would reluctantly cash in should their evaluation be met – the club are said to want £8m.
The 28-year-old is attracting interest from Russia and Spain but could well follow fellow former Newcastle player Mathieu Debuchy in making the switch from St James’ Park to the Emirates this summer.
Wenger has been targeting a defensive midfielder during the transfer window and a move for Tiote would represent a much cheaper deal for the club than reported moves for Sami Khedira and William Carvalho – along with bringing valued Premier League experience.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew will not want to lose his influential vice-captain so close to the new season, with the player impressing last term, but could find himself powerless if the right offer came in for the player.
Tiote arrived in England in a £3.5m deal from FC Twente and has made 119 appearances for the club, with his single goal in fact coming against Arsenal in the form of a stunning volley to seal a stunning four goal comeback to 4-4.
The midfielder boasted the stat of picking up 25 yellow cards in his first 50 games, a shocking card every two games for the club.
