Arsenal’s World Cup winning midfielder Mesut Ozil says he hopes to do better in his second season in the Premier League, ESPN has reported.

Ozil told an interview with German publication Sport Bild that he wants his successful summer with the national team to be a launch pad for better things at club level after a mixed first season in England.

“There is room for improvement in all departments,” the former Real Madrid playmaker acknowledged. “I need to have more shots at goal again, and also improve my headers. The World Cup title was a great success, but it has to go on now.

“I am looking forward to my second season in England, because I can also bring in my experience from my first season,” Ozil continued. “I feel great in England, and even more so in London and especially at Arsenal.”

The Gunners’ record signing added that he feels he was at times harshly done by in his debut campaign, but said it is the opinion of Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal fans he is most concerned with. “When things don't run that smooth at times, there is criticism,” he said. “Sometimes it's fair, and sometimes it's unfair. But I can judge my performances very well - and I also know how the coach and the fans rate it.

“It's difficult in England. There at least five teams competing for the title in the Premier League,” Ozil went on. “But to me personally it's clear: I want to have maximum success in every competition I play.

“I've only been back with the team since Monday. But I believe that we have made good reinforcements. And I hope that those injury woes from last season do not continue.”

Ozil and fellow Germany internationals Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski were given an extended break by Wenger following the World Cup, the trio sitting out Sunday’s Community Shield win over Premier League champions Manchester City.
