Man Utd’s Shaw out for four weeks
Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has been ruled out for four weeks after picking up a hamstring injury, BBC Sport has reported.
The £27m summer signing from Southampton played in all five of United’s friendlies in their tour of the United States, but sat out the final pre-season game against Valencia at the weekend, presumably due to the injury.
He will now miss Premier League fixtures against Swansea City, Sunderland and Burnley as well as Man Utd’s trip to Milton Keynes Dons in the second round of the Capital One Cup. The 19-year-old will also be a major doubt for the two England matches in early September, with their opening Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland coming after a friendly with Norway.
This represents a huge blow for United and manager Louis van Gaal, as they now find themselves desperately short at the back ahead of the meeting with the Swans on Saturday. Reece James, who has never played a first team game, looks to be the only recognisable backup to play as the left wing-back.
