West Ham sign Sakho

West Ham United have completed the transfer of striker Diafra Sakho from newly promoted Ligue 1 outfit FC Metz, confirms talkSPORT.

Sam Allardyce

It has been no secret that the Hammers have been in the market for a striker with Andy Carroll out of action with an ankle injury until at least December, and it seems that Sam Allardyce has finally found his man with the capture of Senegal international Sakho.

Sakho, who arrived for an undisclosed fee said by some sources to be around £3.5 million, has signed a four-year contract at Upton Park, and is the seventh signing Allardyce has made during a busy summer in east London.

The 24-year-old scored 47 goals in 124 appearances in all competitions with Metz, who other than a loan spell with US Boulogne in 2011/12 are the only team he has represented thus far in his career.

He was third-top scorer in Ligue 2 last season with 20 goals as Metz won the division by 11 points.

Speaking of his excitement at having completed the transfer, Sakho said: “This is a proud day to have signed for West Ham. I really love English football and I’ve dreamed of coming to play for one of the big English clubs. Today, West Ham have given me that opportunity and I didn’t hesitate to grab it.”

Sakho, who scored his first goal for the Senegal national team in the May friendly 3-1 win over Kosovo, claimed that he has been training hard to be ready to give everything for his new club, and is confident that he can be a success.

“I’ve come here to continue as I was at Metz. I’m going to give it my all, going flat out on the pitch and I think the fans will appreciate that,” he said.

Sakho is the second Senegalese international that Allardyce has signed this summer after bringing in midfielder Cheikhou Kouyaté from Anderlecht.
