Dzeko set to extend City stay
Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko looks set to sign a new contract with the club that will that will see him extend his three year stay at the Eithad Stadium, Sky Sports is reporting.
The Bosnian international was signed by former boss Roberto Mancini back in 2011 for £27m from German club Wolfsburg and quickly established himself as a man with an eye for goal.
In 109 games the striker has bagged 46 goals for the club despite finding himself coming off the bench for large parts of his City career.
However he ended last season in impressive fashion, playing a key part in their reclaiming of the Premier League crown, and manager Manuel Pellegrini continued to pick him for the weekend’s victory over Newcastle – with the player providing a classy back heel to assist their opening goal thanks to David Silva.
Dzeko had been linked with moves away from the Manchester club last season but has stayed to fight for his place and now looks likely to be rewarded as the club look to tie the striker down for the near future.
Pellegrini confirmed a deal was on the table and while it was not ‘100% finished’, expected it to be wrapped up very soon.
