Spurs reject £10m Southampton bid for Townsend
Tottenham have knocked back a £10m bid for winger Andros Townsend as Southampton continue to search for players after their summer exodus, the Daily Star is reporting.
Townsend came to prominence last season with some eye catching performances for Spurs and for the national side – scoring on his debut against Montenegro at Wembley as England qualified for the World Cup.
However the Saints saw their approach rejected as their former manager Mauricio Pochettino does not want to let the winger leave White Hart Lane.
Spurs are interested in taking Morgan Schneiderlin to the club but no deals involving the two players look likely to take place.
Townsend himself is also said to be keen on staying with Tottenham and fighting for a starting berth in Pochettino’s plans for the coming season.
This means Ronald Koeman will have to look elsewhere to strengthen a depleted squad with the club raking in almost £100m for the sales of Adam Lallana, Callum Chambers, Luke Shaw, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren.
The club have however spent approximately £47m in bringing in reinforcements in the shapes of Ryan Bertrand, Faiser Forster, Graziano Pelle, Shane Long, Dusan Tadic, Saphir Taider and Florin Gardos.
