Burnley vs Chelsea – Premier League preview and team news

Chelsea make the trip to deepest Lancashire to take on promoted Burnley in the final match of the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

The Clarets were not many people’s favourites to reach the top-flight, and they have already been written off in some quarters ahead of this campaign. However, they have a hugely talented young manager in Sean Dyche, while they have retained the striking duo that dominated the Championship last season, Danny Ings and Sam Vokes. Ashley Barnes can also chip in with his fair share, while Kieran Trippier is a very promising right-back.

They could not have been handed a much tougher start, as Chelsea look well equipped to win the title this time around after last season’s third place. The pressure will be on Diego Costa to repeat the form he showed in helping Atletico Madrid to the La Liga title this season, while the addition of Cesc Fabregas will add even more creativity and quality in the final third to a squad which already includes Oscar and Eden Hazard among others.

Lukas Jutkiewicz and Matt Taylor could be given their Burnley debuts, and Tom Heaton should be fit enough to play after recovering from injury.

Along with Costa and Fabregas, Filipe Luis may represent Chelsea for the first time, but Didier Drogba will be assessed due to a knee problem.
