Man City set to allow quartet to leave

Tuesday 19 August 2014

Manchester City are preparing to allow four senior players to leave as manager Manuel Pellegrini looks to trim to squad by the end of the transfer window, Sky Sports has reported.

Micah Richards

Defenders Matija Nastasic and Micah Richards, winger Scott Sinclair and striker John Guidetti all look set to move on, with each of them having fallen out of favour at the Premier League champions.

Nastasic was a regular partner for captain Vincent Kompany at centre-back, but has not played since the beginning of February having lost his place to Martin Demichelis. The recent signing of Eliaquim Mangala has further reduced his chances of playing, and he has now been linked with a return to Italy after two years at City.

England international Richards has spent his whole career at the club, but only made 10 appearances last season and is no longer considered an option to play at centre-back. He has lost his place at right-back to Pablo Zabaleta in recent seasons.

Sinclair has made little impact since arriving from Swansea City in 2012, while Guidetti is keen to move on having also rarely featured. Explaining the situation, Pellegrini said: "Matija needs to play. We already have important players here with four full-backs, Demichelis, Kompany, Mangala and Boyata.

"So we will see in the next few days what happens with Nastasic. He is an important player, but he has offers and I think the best thing for him is to play.

"We will see what happens, but we have until the end of August to see what kind of offers we get for Matija.

"That also goes for Micah Richards, who didn't want to continue here because he wants to play more. He had a contract to renew, but didn't want it. So we have three or four players extra - Scott Sinclair and John Guidetti are also important players - but I don't like to have so many in the squad.’
