Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could make a move for long standing target Douglas Costa after Shakhtar Donetsk told the player they will not stand in his way should he want to leave, the Metro has reported.

Costa has been courted by Arsenal in the past with two offers for the Brazilian playmaker rebuffed by the Ukrainian club.

However they could well finally land the player after the club confirmed the player is available for the right deal – a season long loan is being mooted for both parties.

Costa is valued at around £40m by Shakhtar and Wenger is said to be unwilling to spend that kind of money on the attacking midfielder, although money could be offered if German Lukas Podolski leaves the Emirates Stadium before the transfer deadline.

Costa joined the club back in 2009 from Brazilian club Gremio and has been a regular in their starting XI ever since – making 170 appearances and bagging 33 goals.

He has won the Ukrainian league title in each of his five seasons with the club.

The question is WHY? Why would we buy another attacking midfielder when they are coming out of our ears. To bring in more would mean to let some go, which leaves Pods and Rozza out on a limb! If your goona bring another attacking player in make it a goal scorer a least, although Reus is in the right price range for Arsen. If Rozza and Pod's goes and you brought in Reus and Cavani then happy days but it wont happen. Also what about a defender and DMF... I don't think Arsen would spend that much money in one window.
