Premier League new boys Queens Park Rangers are expected to complete the loan signing of Chile international forward Eduardo Vargas, the BBC has reported.

Eduardo Vargas

Vargas is contracted to Serie A side Napoli but spent the second half of last season on loan with Valencia, making 17 appearances and scoring three goals in La Liga and featuring a further eight times in other competitions, netting twice.

He moved to Napoli in January 2012 but struggled to make an impact at San Paolo and has yet to start a game in the Italian league, according to statistics from Soccerbase. He has made a total of 28 appearances for the Neapolitans, scoring three times.

Vargas spent a large part of 2013 on loan in Brazil with Gremio, featuring 37 times and finding the back of the net on nine occasions. He also featured at the World Cup this summer, helping La Roja to the Round of 16. Vargas has 34 caps for his country and 15 goals to his name.

QPR have already signed one Chile international this summer, taking wing-back Mauricio Isla on loan from Serie A champions Juventus. The BBC add that manager Harry Redknapp has said he wants two midfielders and a forward before the end of the transfer window, with Norwich City’s Netherlands international Leroy Fer said to be close to a move to Loftus Road.
