Marouane Fellaini’s proposed move from Manchester United to Serie A side Napoli is in doubt after the Belgium international suffered a foot injury in training, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Fellaini was pictured on crutches and with his foot in a protective boot and while the extent of the injury isn’t know, it’s suggested the severity is enough to force Napoli to abandon their interest in the former Everton midfielder.

A season-long loan deal to take Fellaini from Old Trafford to San Paolo had been mooted but Napoli have since signed former Swansea City midfielder Jonathan de Guzman. De Guzman spent two years at the Liberty Stadium on loan from Villarreal but has agreed a permanent deal with Rafael Benitez’s side.

Fellaini moved to United last summer, leaving Everton shortly after David Moyes quit the Toffees to take over from Sir Alex Ferguson. But Moyes was sacked before the end of the season while the Telegraph adds that £27.5m signing Fellaini struggled to impress.

The 26-year-old made 21 appearances in an injury-hit campaign and failed to score, having played 36 times for Everton the year before and registered 12 goals. In total Fellaini featured 177 times for Everton, scoring 33 goals.
