Edin Dzeko has become the latest player to commit his long-term future to Manchester City after signing a new four-year contract on Wednesday, the Daily Mirror has reported.

He now joins Sergio Aguero, Aleksandar Kolarov, Vincent Kompany, Samir Nasri and David Silva in extending their stay.

The 28-year-old will now continue to be at the club until at least the summer of 2018, having shown impressive form throughout his time at the Etihad Stadium, but particularly since Manuel Pellegrini became the manager at the beginning of last season.

Since joining after a prolific spell at Wolfsburg in January 2011, the Bosnian initially made a slow start to life in the Premier League, but has since gone on to win two titles, as well as experiencing victory in the FA Cup in 2011 and the Capital One Cup back in March.

With Alvaro Negredo having suffered a long-term injury, Dzeko is now set to become a key player this season, and made an encouraging start with an impressive performance against Newcastle United on Sunday.

After signing the new deal, Dzeko said: “I’m really happy here at City, it's a second home to me, so it was an easy decision to stay for the long-term. I knew from the beginning when I started here that I wanted to stay for a long time - I can't see any place better than here.

"I'm settled perfectly to life here, I know my teammates, the club, the team, very well and I feel like I can improve even more. Over the last three and a half years we’ve made history together but I feel like we are only at the start of something really special."
