Liverpool in talks with Balotelli
Liverpool have opened talks with Milan striker Mario Balotelli over the possibility of a move to Anfield after identifying him as a key transfer target, according to BBC Sport.
Along with Arsenal, the Reds have been linked with the controversial Italian throughout the summer. Any interest from the North London club seems to have passed, but now Liverpool have made an approach as manager Brendan Rodgers looks to help replace the gap left by Luis Suarez, who moved to Barcelona for £75m in July.
Balotelli has been at Milan since January 2013, when he joined from Manchester City. Despite the Rossoneri’s struggles on the pitch and last season’s disappointing mid-table finish, the 24-year-old has an impressive scoring record of 30 goals in 54 appearances.
Last season’s Premier League runners-up will now hope to tempt him back to England, where he helped Manchester City to a first league title for 44 years in 2012, and scored 30 goals in 80 league outings in a two and-a-half year stay. Despite that, he regularly hit the headlines for his behaviour off the field, including a training ground fracas with manager Roberto Mancini.
