Everton boss Martinez considering further transfers

Roberto Martinez has hinted he will re-enter the transfer market before the window closes at the end of August as he contends with an injury-hit Everton squad, Sky Sports has reported.

The Toffees are without Arouna Kone, Bryan Oviedo and Ross Barkley, the latter injuring his knee in training days before the start of the new Premier League season, and Martinez suggested that he is looking at options for new faces with the window closing in less than two weeks’ time.

“We have got a bit of time but over the next two weeks we need to take that into consideration, bearing in mind the transfer window will close,” he said. “There are going to be many links - there is still a long time in the window.”

Everton have been linked with an approach for former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o, having also signed Romelu Lukaku from the Blues after a successful loan spell last season at Goodison Park.

Martinez has added Muhamed Besic and Christian Atsu - on loan from Chelsea - to his squad from last season, as well as competing the permanent signing of Gareth Barry, who spent the year at Everton after falling out of favour at Manchester City.
