Tottenham to miss out on Depay
Tottenham are set to miss out on signing forward Memphis Depay after the 20-year-old signed a new contract with PSV Eindhoven, according to the Metro.
Due to a shortage of striking options, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino had considered making a move to sign Depay, who came to prominence when he made a telling contribution as an impact substitute at the World Cup.
Representing the Netherlands, he scored goals in the group stage against Australia and Chile, eventually going on to help his country finish third at the tournament.
The new four-year deal that has been signed by Depay was announced on Twitter by Dutch journalist Elko Born, and it may force Spurs to turn their attention to other possible targets, although the defence is where Pochettino is most keen to strengthen, with Sevilla star Federico Fazio heavily linked.
Depay will now be at PSV until the summer of 2018, and has made a strong impression since breaking into the club’s first team. Overall, he has scored 27 goals and provided the assist for 24 others in his 88 appearances.
