Mourinho - Cech reacting positively

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has said that goalkeeper Petr Cech is reacting positively to the loss of his first XI berth for the first time in his Chelsea career, Sky Sports has reported.

Petr Cech

Belgian Thibaut Courtois has returned following three years of successive loans to Spanish Champions Atletico Madrid but is back at Stamford Bridge – and said he would want first team football for him to remain at the club.

Mourinho seemingly granted his wishes as he started the 22-year-old ahead of the Czech international against Burnley and for the first time in ten years raising questions over his positions at Chelsea.

But according to his manager the 32-year-old has been training hard as he bids to battle back for his number one spot.

The Portuguese boss said: “He's a top professional. He's working as always, behaving as always, being a group man as always, being a Chelsea man as always.

“Is he totally happy? I don't believe. It's not him. It's everyone that didn't start the game. This period is hard for them and for me because it's one with one match per week. The first three matches, they clearly feel that some are playing more and some are not.”

Cech moved to the Blues in a £7m deal from French club Rennes back in 2004 and has been first choice goalkeeper ever since, playing 470 times for the club – he has won three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League with Chelsea.
