Pellegrini ramps up Mourinho style mind games on Liverpool

Manuel Pellegrini has stated that he always believed Liverpool would slip up in last season’s title race as he ramps up the pressure ahead of their crunch clash this weekend, the Daily Star has reported.

The Chilean manager has claimed rivals Liverpool simply buckled under the pressure at the business end of the season and never doubted his side would be Champions.

City had lost to Liverpool to leave themselves seven points behind with just four games left to play, although they enjoyed two games in hand on their title rivals.

Five wins from that six heaped pressure on the Merseyside club and a loss to Chelsea and draw with Crystal Palace meant the Premier League crown headed to Manchester as City won by two points.

And ahead of what both teams will see as a potential marker to lay down should they win, Pellegrini has moved to ensure that his opponents will be feeling the pressure once again before Monday’s big game.

Pellegrini said: “I was not surprised (Liverpool did not win the title).

“I was absolutely convinced when I said the words that I said - 'careful it's not finished because they have to play four games more and the pressure when you are at the top of the table is increasing after every game'.

“The most important thing for us was not to think about Liverpool, but think about what we had to do and we had to win the last five games and we did.

“So when you have to play four more games and you have only two points at the top (over second-placed Chelsea) you cannot be sure of being champions.

“That's why I was absolutely sure they weren't going to win the four games that they had to play.”

The City boss also claimed that despite bookmakers making Chelsea the favourites this time around, his squad are in fact the strongest in the league.

Liverpool didn't make it because City's squad was three times the size of ours then we had Henderson getting himself a red card and leaving our already depleted squad royally screwed. Liverpool haven't got a rich owner and his brother fiddling the rules with the naming rights. City are even more corrupt than FIFA.
