Liverpool can win the title, says Markovic
New Liverpool signing Lazar Makovic has said that he expects the club to win the Premier League title this season, Daily Telegraph has reported.
Despite being only 20 years of age, Markovic has experience of winning four league titles. He won his first three while at Partizan Belgrade in his native Serbia; the club where he began his career, before triumphing again as part of a Benfica side that dominated the Portuguese Superliga last season.
With Liverpool having sold Luis Suarez to Barcelona in the summer after finishing runners-up in the Premier League in 2013-14, they are tipped to have a weaker chance of winning the title this time around, with Chelsea and reigning champions Manchester City the more fancied sides, but Markovic is confident the Reds can finish first.
He said: “I was lucky enough to play in Serbia and play in Portugal but although Liverpool is different I have experienced a lot so young and obviously that has given me confidence.”
When asked why he decided to move to Anfield, he added: “Firstly, it is one of the best clubs in the world. Secondly, it is one of the best leagues in the world and, thirdly, Liverpool are superior and the strongest team, in my opinion, in England. We are all competent and good enough to win the title. It’s the confidence that I feel.”
