Hull vs Stoke - Premier League preview and team news

Sunday 24 August 2014

Hull City have the chance to make it maximum points from their first two Premier League games when they meet a Stoke City side looking to bounce back from an opening day defeat.

After a first half which saw them create next to nothing in the way of chances, Hull were a different proposition after the break against Queens Park Rangers, with James Chester sealing a first win at Loftus Road since 1963. It was a strong defensive performance, and one that was akin to several that produced last season. A goalkeeping error then saw them lose to Lokeren in midweek, but the league remains the priority for Steve Bruce.

There was plenty of optimism among the Stoke supporters ahead of the first game of the new campaign against Aston Villa, but despite a few moments of entertainment from new signing Bojan Krkic, they fell short. Manager Mark Hughes later suggested that it could help bring expectation down, but he will be keen to prevent his side from losing again, particularly as their next game is at Manchester City.

For Hull, Yannick Sagbo completes a two-match ban, while they were dealt a major blow in the week by the news that new signing Robert Snodgrass will be out for around six months.

Andy Wilkinson is still out for Stoke, who could hand a recall to striker Peter Crouch, who was only a substitute against Aston Villa.
