Liverpool striker Fabio Borini’s proposed move to Sunderland is stalling because he doesn’t want to give up on his career at Anfield, according to the Metro, and prefers to join on loan for another season instead.

A fee of £14m has been agreed by the two clubs after Borini enjoyed a fruitful season on loan at the Stadium of Light last term and it was anticipated the move would go through after the money was agreed.

However any transfer is still stalling on personal terms with the Italian unwilling to leave Liverpool on a permanent basis.

Borini will see his first team opportunities very limited this season should he stay at Anfield with Daniel Sturridge and the expected new singing of Mario Balotelli to lead the line, with Rickie Lambert providing back up and squad depth also.

But the former Chelsea man is refusing to give up on his place in Brendan Rodgers squad and will only agree to a move back to the North East if Gus Poyet can negotiate another temporary deal for the striker, who scored seven league goals as the Black Cats remarkable survived relegation.
