Balotelli ‘wrong’ to leave England
New Liverpool signing Mario Balotelli has admitted that he made a ‘mistake’ in leaving English football to return to Italy back in January 2013, Sky Sports has reported.
Balotelli is back in the Premier League after completing a £16m move to Anfield from Milan on Monday. He had previously represented Manchester City, whom he helped to a first league title in 44 years in 2012, as well as the FA Cup in 2011.
The 24-year-old was in the stands as his new club lost to his old one on Monday evening, and is likely to make his debut in the trip to Tottenham on Sunday. Having now linked up with Brendan Rodgers’ side, he has targeted success in the Champions League, which he won with Inter in 2010.
"I'm happy to be back because I left England, and it was a mistake," he said. "I wanted to go to Italy but I realised it was a mistake. English football is generally better. English football is beautiful.
“I want to win another Champions League for sure, because the Champions League (with Inter in 2010) wasn't all mine, I was in a team. I want to take this team to the Champions League. Liverpool are one of the best teams here in England. The football is very good here. It's a great team with young players, and that's why I came here."
