The vice-president of Serie A club Milan has admitted that they are interested in signing Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, and he is also hopeful of sealing a deal for teammate Marco van Ginkel, reports the Daily Express.

The seven-time European champions are looking to rebuild their strike-force in the final week of the transfer window, having sold Mario Balotelli to Liverpool. They have been linked with Torres for some weeks, although Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is keen to keep him at Stamford Bridge as cover for Diego Costa.

Signed for a then British record transfer of £50m in January 2011, Torres has struggled to find form at Stamford Bridge, despite arriving following a prolific spell at Liverpool. He has now lost his place in the team and could be seeking a move. When asked about Torres, Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani said: "Our goal is to take a great striker. Fernando Torres? He is a great striker. Let's see if he comes or someone else. We are actively working.’

Dutchman van Ginkel was only signed last summer from Vitesse Arnhem, but spent nearly the whole of the season out with a long-term injury. On the youngster, Galliani added: "Van Ginkel? We are confident. We have made our proposal to Chelsea and are now waiting on an answer. We hope we can get him."
