Arsenal could look towards Welbeck after Giroud injury
Arsenal could make a move for Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck after learning that they could be without Olivier Giroud for an extended period of time, according to the Daily Mail.
Giroud was crocked just after equalising in the dying minutes as Arsenal snatched a 2-2 with Everton at the weekend and it is feared he could be missing until the New Year with a suspected broken foot – the first scans of the injury failed to clear up the extent of the blow.
The layoff could force manager Arsene Wenger back into the transfer market for a forward after previously stating he was not looking to strengthen his front line.
Giroud played a staggering 51 games last season and Wenger will be looking to replace the Frenchman after his experiment in starting Alexis Sanchez up front proved fruitless.
Welbeck features highly on the club’s list of options after he was told by United boss Louis van Gaal that he is free to leave the club – after finding himself behind Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez in the pecking order.
It is also believed that the England international would give great consideration in moving to the Emirates, with the only realistic problem being United’s willingness to sell to a rival, with their Thomas Vermaelen interest snubbed by Arsenal earlier in the window.
