Arsenal defender Callum Chambers is one of four uncapped players named by Roy Hodgson in the England squad to play Norway and Switzerland, BBC Sport has confirmed.

Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback, Aston Villa’s Fabian Delph and Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose have been named in the party, with Wayne Rooney confirmed as Steven Gerrard’s replacement as captain.

Gerrard and Frank Lampard both retired from international duty following England’s group stage exit in Brazil, with Rooney now the squad’s most-capped player.

Chambers joined the Gunners this summer from Southampton, while Colback made the move from Sunderland to Newcastle. Delph played for Leeds prior to joining Villa and was the Midlands club’s Player of the Year last season and Rose recently signed a new deal at White Hart Lane.

Everton youngster John Stones, who was on standby for the World Cup, has also been included, alongside club colleagues Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka.

The England squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Southampton), Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion), Joe Hart (Manchester City)

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Calum Chambers (Arsenal), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), John Stones (Everton)

Midfielders: Jack Colback (Newcastle United), Fabian Delph (Aston Villa), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal) Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Andros Townsend (Tottenham Hotspur), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal)

Forwards: Rickie Lambert (Liverpool), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)
