Zabaleta: Everyone would want Di Maria
Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta has said that every club would want to sign Angel Di Maria after his fellow Argentina international left Real Madrid for Manchester United, ESPN has reported.
Di Maria on Tuesday completed a move worth just under £60m, setting a new British record for a transfer, and Zabaleta believes United have spent wisely.
“With Di Maria I have to say United have signed one of those players that every single club in the world would like to sign,” he said. “He's a top player.
“He has been at Real Madrid and has won a lot of trophies - he's won the Champions League and has great experience there,” Zabaleta continued. “He's a great player, he's fast, he's direct, sets up goals and can score them. They are spending a lot of money but he will be a great signing for them.
“He has signed for United - and of course I can't say I want United to win - but I wish him the best and I hope he can play well.”
With Marcos Rojo also moving to Old Trafford - and Zabaleta’s City teammates including the likes of Willy Caballero, Martin Demichelis and Sergio Aguero - the defender welcomed the growing Argentine conclave. “All the Argentinians are taking over Manchester,” he noted.
Zabaleta has been at City since 2008, the longest-serving of the Argentines. He has gone on to make more than 230 appearances for the Premier League champions, winning the title twice, as well as the FA Cup and League Cup, and scoring nine times.
