Neil Warnock begins his second spell in charge of Crystal Palace with a trip to Newcastle United, who are looking for their first league goal as well as a first win.

St. James’ Park

While they have been unable to hit the net, Newcastle have played some neat football in their two Premier League outings so far. They were unlucky not to win at Aston Villa after controlling most of their encounter, but their lack of a clinical edge in attack has already been exposed, and Alan Pardew may be forced to dip into the transfer market should they fail again here in front of an expectant crowd.

After an extensive search, Palace went with experience rather than youth to fill the vacancy left by Tony Pulis, and they have provided Warnock with the chance to succeed as a Premier League manager at the third time of asking.

The 65-year-old’s first objective will be guide the Eagles to their first points of the season after losing their opening two games, where they lost late on at Arsenal and were then outplayed by West Ham United.

Steven Taylor is suspended for Newcastle after his sending off at Villa Park, while Davide Santon, Papiss Cisse and Cheick Tiote are all sidelined by injury.

Crystal Palace could hand a start to Dwight Gayle after his hat-trick at Walsall in the Capital One Cup, while Wilfried Zaha could also play after returning on loan from Manchester United. Jason Puncheon is back available after a one-match ban.
