Everton vs Chelsea - Premier League preview and team news

After winning their opening two Premier League matches, Chelsea face arguably their first significant test of their title credentials when they travel to Goodison Park to take on Everton.

Goodison Park

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez will be massively disappointed that his side only have two points from their first two games, when they could easily be level with Chelsea on six after losing leads late on in both.

They ran out of steam badly against Arsenal last time out and succumbed to the late pressure that came their way, but they have since tempted Samuel Eto’o to join, and he as well as Romelu Lukaku should have no problem in getting themselves up for this encounter.

Chelsea started quite slowly against Leicester City in their last outing, and had to rely on a fine Thibaut Courtois save early in the second half to keep them level. From then on, they showed their considerable quality and creativity to eventually run out comfortable winners. Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas already seem to have made a massive difference, but they will be tested by what is a strong Everton team.

Christian Atsu is absent for Everton as he is unable to face his parent club. The hosts are also without Ross Barkley, Arouna Kone, Bryan Oviedo and Steven Pienaar.

Diego Costa will be assessed by Chelsea ahead of this match after picking up a muscle problem. Andre Schurrle is more of a doubt with a foot injury, so Mohamed Salah or Willian could replace him.
