Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has insisted that striker Darren Bent is not for sale, after he was reintroduced to the first-team at West Midlands club, Sky Sports has reported.

Darren Bent

The former England international found himself cast aside at Villa Park upon Lambert’s arrival in 2012, losing the captaincy as well as his place in the team, as Christian Benteke arrived from Genk.

Most of his appearances in 2012-13 came from the bench, while last season he was sent out on loan to Fulham, where he also found himself in and out of the team, and ended up scoring six goals in 30 appearances as they were relegated from the Premier League.

Along with Alan Hutton and Charles N’Zogbia, he has been allowed to return to the fold, starting Wednesday’s Capital One Cup defeat to Leyton Orient, and Lambert has no plans to sell him. "I do expect him to be here at the end of the transfer window,’ he said.

"You would keep Darren. As I said before, you do what's right for Aston Villa. No one will go until I say so. You keep all your players and I don't see us letting anyone go right now. Nobody will leave without me saying. I don't think any player like that will move. Darren's here and nobody will be going."
