Agger set for bargain move to Bronby

Liverpool’s Daniel Agger will seal an anticipated return to his first ever club Brondby this weekend for what is being described as a ‘nominal fee’, the Telegraph is reporting.

The arrival of £20m man Dejan Lovren earlier in the summer sparked rumours that Dane Agger, who saw his previous season disrupted by a series of hamstring problems, would look elsewhere for first team football.

Liverpool had in fact rejected the advances of Manchester City in 2012, and more recently Barcelona for the player’s services but after Agger hinted he could envision himself ending his career at home club Brondby a deal now looks likely.

Agger has been held in high regard throughout the Premier League as one of its strongest defenders and the move will come as a surprise given the calibre of clubs interested in him.

The 29-year-old signed for the Reds from Brondby in a deal worth £5.8m back in 2006 and has made 232 appearances for the Anfield club.

He will now turn his back on top level football to return home after the club accepted his desire to play in Denmark.
